spoiler span takes a couple of seconds before it hides

Why does the spoiler span doesn't hide as soon as the page loads? It takes a second before it hides.

$(".spoiler span").hide(); $(".spoiler").append("<button>Reveal Spoiler</button>"); $("button").click(function(){ $(".spoiler span").show(); $("button").detach(); });

The JavaScript doesn't run until after all loading is complete. But you can use CSS to make it hidden from the beginning (and then you won't need the hide):

.spoiler span { display: none; }

Also, for a cool effect, try fadeIn or slideDown instead of show.
