Stream in lower resolution

I'm accessing you videos from China. The video buffers. Is there any way I can stream in a lower res? My VPN is off as this makes my connection faster. Is teamtreehouse.com accessible within China? Do I need to access using VPN? So far some content was able to get through without the VPN. The buffer is driving me crazy.
