Lets create a custom theme called "CustomTheme" thats extends the parent theme Theme .AppCompat .DayNight. DarkActionBar .Start by adding the theme and setting the parent below

hey there! i think you're a bit mixed up,i recommend to check out the video one more time to make sure you've got everything! ;) you need to change it to become something like:

<style name="CustomTheme"</style>

then you need to define the parent too , so you add this in your styles attribute:

<style name="CustomTheme" parent = "Theme.AppCompat.DayNight.DarkActionBar"></style>
