SyntaxError: script.js: Unexpected token `e` (4:2)

I keep getting a error with SyntaxError: script.js: Unexpected token e (4:2) and I'm not sure why.

script.js
function max (first,second){
if  (first>second); {
return first;
} else{
  return second;}

Hi Claire!

Lose the semicolon in the if statement.

Also, you are missing your last curly brace.

Indent better/more strict and that kind of error will be easier to spot.

function max(first, second) {
    if (first > second) { // No semicolon
      return first;
    } else {
      return second;
    }
} // This was missing

I hope that helps.

Stay safe and happy coding!
