The "Add Anchor Point Tool" doesnt work for me

Icreated the triangle shape but when I want to add a ne anchor point using the "Add Anchor Point Tool", I am given this message: "Please use the anchor point tool on a segment of a path" - which I am of course doing exactle as demonstrated in the video. Any ideas? Thank you.

Do you have the path selected before trying to add the anchor point? Also, maybe check to see that snap to grid is turned off?

Please try this: Select the path by using the direct selection tool. Once the path of the triangle is highlighted switch to the pen tool and hover over anywhere on the path. The pen tool should change a bit and have a + beside it. When you see that, click on the path and you should be able to add an anchor point. I hope this helps.

Select the path, select direct selection tool, double click on the created anchor and drag it.

I've found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMCn1QXrN8U. It helped me understand how it works. Probably someone will find it helpful.
