the request isn't resolving with the currencies constant..?

You cannot remove a value key to a constant. Change it to var.

var currencies = ["US": "Dollar",
    "UK": "Pound",
    "JP": "Yen"]

let ukCurrency = currencies.removeValueForKey("UK")!
println(currencies)
