Third-party libraries vs API

Until now, I thought that all open source projects and so third-party libraries, and so APIs, but int he video Ben mentioned third-party libraries and APIs as to different things. If there's a difference, could someone please explain it me?

Hi Gabor, In computer programming, a third-party software component is a reusable software component developed to be either freely distributed or sold by an entity other than the original vendor of the development platform.

API (Application Programming Interface) is a set of functions and procedures that allow the creation of applications which access the features or data of an operating system, application, or other service.

May be someone will make you more clear about the differences.
