This is the second time I've had something written correctly and the editor is trying to correct it.

How else would you set the padding to 15 pixels and the margin to 10 pixels?

    <title>List Example</title>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="styles.css">
  </head>
  <body>

    <a class="social-links" href="#">Follow me on Twitter!</a>
    <a class="social-links" href="#">Send me an Email!</a>

  </body>
</html>
styles.css
<style>
  .social-links {

What if you remove the <style> and </style> tags in your css file?

Since you are using css externally, you don't need the style tags, try

.social-links {
  padding: 15px;
  margin: 10px;
}

Hope this helps.

Thank you
