This should select all links with class external and set target to blank...

am I mis-reading the question? when I use this code?

The result is "I was expecting 'target' to be '_blank' which is what that's doing...

js/app.js
$(".external a").attr("target","_blank");
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
  <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen" title="no title" charset="utf-8">
  <title>Links Page</title>
</head>
<body>
  <h1>Links</h1>
  <ul>
    <li><a href="http://google.com" class="external">Google</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://yahoo.com" class="external">Yahoo</a></li>
  </ul>
  <script src="//code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.0.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
  <script src="js/app.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
</body>
</html>

Hey Jason,

You're "over selecting". The .external class is already "attached" to the anchor tag.

Hope this gives you a clue!

You nailed it dude. Thx for the pointer and still giving me the option to try and figure it out with a hint!

No problem! It's much more helpful to guide than to give.

It's also worth pointing out that a.external would have been a valid answer.
