This video is out of date, so I wrote a guide on how to set up the current version of MySQL Workbench for OS X

Hey Gerald, sorry for the delay, I've been off of treehouse the past few days working on some projects. When I say system preferences I mean for your mac. Click the apple icon in the top left > system preferences and you should see MySQL there at the bottom. I took a screenshot to show you where I mean - https://imgur.com/96RACQm

Go to MySQL and make sure that you click Start MySQL Server.

I'm stuck here

Can you please help?

When you say under system preferences are you referring to in the app or actually under system preferences from my mac?

David Lin, have you tried giving this a once-over? It may be just as easy as updating the user roles.

Thanks ! :)

Thanks a lot! Well written too. I also wish there was a way to give points or something for that.

I installed (or at least I think I did) the .cnf file but my machine says "error: File /etc/my.cnf doesn't exist". When I enter my system password after typing in what Kyle suggested it reads:

cp [-R [-H | -L ] | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file target_file next line same until source_file ... target_directory

Was it installed?

I have a space between cp and /usr - should there be one?

Also I'm using a new machine, OSX 10.10 but following guidelines for 10.9 if that matters.

Thanks everyone (and Kyle!)

Hey Dotz,

Glad the guide helped! It's been quite a while since I've done these lessons and wrote that guide though, and I haven't been using MySQL Workbench that much in the meantime. Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it? Hopefully someone else here will be able to help you if it doesn't.

Sending another "thank you", Kyle! The instructions for installing MySQL Workbench on OS X have been very helpful.
