Token authentication required for Git Operations

I'm currently doing the introduction to git and was in the precess of syncing my workspace to my git account, but it's telling me i need to get a token and authenticate my account instead of using my password which was a change made over a year ago. I can't seem to figure out how since it's not covered in the lesson which i figure was made before that change. Any help would be appreciated.
