urlpatterns in django - what should be url for views.hello_world?

From django docs:

from django.conf.urls import url

from . import views

urlpatterns = [
    url(r'^articles/2003/$', views.special_case_2003),
    url(r'^articles/([0-9]{4})/$', views.year_archive),
    url(r'^articles/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{2})/$', views.month_archive),
    url(r'^articles/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{2})/([0-9]+)/$', views.article_detail),

What is view name that should be routed?

First up, you can use the same import syntax for the views as the Django docs:

from . import views

Second, your URL regular expression is looking for just a slash. You can/should remove that if you want to match just the base URL:

urlpatterns = [
  url(r'^$', views.hello_world)
]
