Using CC, and none of the options are the same ...? No free shapes, or choosing path in the options bar ...?

Yeah I realized CC has a few changes/updates compared to older versions..not sure if treehouse will update the tracks, but I've found the Adobe tutorials to be a big help. Check them out here:

I noticed in CC you needed to click on the circle and not inside the circle to make the text appear.
