Using jquery to change classes

I was wondering about best practices when using jQuery plugins. Whether it's best to use object lirerals to indentify links or use jquery to add neccesary classes to them on load? It's possible to add class to the container div as well. And that way it will be easear to delete plugin later (if needed). Is there a downside to this method?
