UX Designer with Front end skills

Hi,

I am a Front end Developer with some design skills. I can easily design website sections using Fireworks and Photoshop and then code them.

I am considering moving to UX Design/Architecture field and wanted to hear some opinions from UX Designer experts.

How important is for a UX Designer to have Front end development skills?

Thank you. Let me know your thoughts.

I think the best answer for this would be "It's as important as you want it to be"

Front End design is a deep knowledge, the more you know the easier it will be to understand what's available to you. Not just being able to fulfill requirements for your website but being able to communicate with future co-workers will be key. Having a knowledge of the processes and abilities that are in a given language is always helpful, but not necessary.

Being Hirable is about finding a niche that you can fill, whether it's being an amazing designer or being able to implement your designs, both are going to get you noticed, it's just a matter of constantly improving and making yourself stand out.
