Did anyone think about this?

At this point, in the console you can type something like this: 'v.........'

That is a letter and whatever you like to type next to it. That shouldn't be the case.

I've been trying to figure it out but I can't the proper method to do so.

Any ideas?

not sure which exercise you are doing, but if you only want the first character of a string then use the charAt() method.

so in your example above,

String variable = "v..........";

char newVariable = variable.charAt(0) ;

newVariable is now "v"

hope this helps
