I guess it depends on your objectives, but for me, after I finished HTML and CSS, I started on JavaScript in order to complete the package of front-end technologies first. I hope to complete Beginning JavaScript shortly and will then complete the front-end developer track. Only then will I move to the back end technologies. If you've not programmed before, this might be be a sensible approach, as you're building on HTML and CSS whilst developing your programming skills. Anyway, these my thoughts for what they are worth. Have fun which ever way you go!!

One of the best resources I've discovered for orienting my way around learning for web development is the 'Web Developer Roadmap' published by Kamran Ahmed.

Although there's a lot on it, at least you know where you are and where to go next.
