Hi Daniel,

you misspelled "href" by mistake und forgot to include two of the links. This should work:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Nick Pettit</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <header>
      <a href="index.html">
        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
      </a>
      <nav>
        <ul>
          <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
            <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
          <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
        <ul>
    </header>
    <section></section>
    <footer>
      <p>&copy; 2013 Nick Pettit.</p>
    </footer>
  </body>
</html>

You not only misspelled "href" but you also forgot to close your

<nav></nav>

tag !

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Nick Pettit</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <header>
      <a href="index.html">
        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
      </a>
      <nav>
        <ul>
          <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
            <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
          <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
        <ul>
      </nav> <!-- YOU FORGOT THIS ONE ! -->
    </header>
    <section></section>
    <footer>
      <p>&copy; 2013 Nick Pettit.</p>
    </footer>
  </body>
</html>

Such things are an easy miss Holger Liesegang ! I use to miss them a lot too when I actually get to coding. Good thing stuff like html linting does exist for me !
