from .models import Writer

class WriterModelTestCase(TestCase):
    '''Tests for the Writer model'''
    def test_wrtier_creation(self):
      writer = Writer.objects.create(
        bio="Born in..."
      b = mailto(writer)

You're trying to use mailto() like it's a function. It's a method of the Writer model so you need to use it like that.
