WordPress How to Make a Website with WordPress Installing WordPress The Famous 5-Minute WordPress Install

What are the advantages of the 1-click vs the 5-minute WordPress install methods?

What are the advantages of the 1-click vs the 5-minute WordPress install methods? Do you pick one or the other or is the manual installation a complement to the 1-click method? In other words, do I have to do the 1-click install in my control panel and then install WordPress manually again?

You do one or the other... Couple comparisons: first is obviously time. 1-click just takes one click and usually filling out a short form. 5-minute install usually takes.. well at least 5 minutes.

1-click installs sometimes are laced with other goodies such has pre-installed plugins, automatic updating, etc. 5-minute install is pure vanilla unless you customize yourself. Both of those sides have their pros and cons.

Between the two, I use the 5-min because I don't like the hosts putting their own dashboards, plugins, or whatever else they want in my installs. For each version of WP, I have a folder that has a blank child theme, a functions.php file with functions I like to use on all my installs (such as customizing the admin area), the default themes already deleted, and the plugins folder already populated with plugins that I tend to almost use. This allows me to pretty much have an install ready right out of the box.

If also been using installatron remote which allows me to clone previous WordPress installs really easily and kind of customize my own 1-click installers.

Thanks, Andrew,

I have a clearer sense between the two options now. It makes sense to want to do the 5-min install as you do if you want to have more control over what is going into the site. I guess I'll learn what I like to use best as I get more experience customizing WP.

Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Hey Viviana,

You either use one method or the other. So if you use the 1 click method you don't have to then do the manual install.

The reason behind this is mostly speed and security. Use 1 click for being a lazy bum :P and 5 minute if you want to custom setup your install.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks, Mike,

I figured that it was one or the other but wanted to check just in case :)

No worries Viviana, so many choices, so little time :)

Have a good one.
