what exactly does url_options do?

As far as I know, super is used to access a method with the same name of the current method from its superclass. I don't quite understand what url_options does, and why it runs although it isn't called in the edit method.

 def url_options
    {todo_list_id: params[:todo_list_id].merge(super)}
  end
