What exactly is a hash or a hash salt and how was its value generated in the app.properties file?

Is it in any way related to the HashMap we use as a data structure? Or is it closer to a cryptographic hash used to encrypt data?

They are not related directly, but have some similarities under the hood. Both use hashing in their implementation to find a unique way to identify an object.
