What is my mistake here?

Not really sure what the issue is

trial.py 
def add(x, y)
try:
    a = float(x)
    b = float(y)
except ValueError:
    return None
else:
    return(a+b)

Two mistakes.

  • Missing ":" in your function declaration!! will throw this error: > SyntaxError: invalid syntax
def add(x, y):
# ...rest of the code
  • you missing the function indentation:

The code block within every function starts with a colon (:) and is indented

def add(x, y):
    try:
        a = float(x)
        b = float(y)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
      return(a+b)
