Take care to note that the function of a device is what they are naming here, not the type of the hardware itself.

Often these days the same physical device performs the function of a switch and a router (sometimes called a layer 3 switch).

So do keep in mind that sometimes people may be referring to a physical device and sometimes they may be referring to a function that a physical device is performing. :)
