What is the logic behind the way the instructor organized the CSS document?

I can clearly understand the sections "Base styles" and "Pseudo-classes". However I do not get the "Main styles" and "Layout Styles". Generally I encounter difficulties in finding a good way to structure the info. Has anybody any suggestion/source?

Everyone has there own way of working I'd just find a way of organising your files that suits you and your colleagues if you have any.
