What is the purpose of writing Prepare for Segue method

how and what elements are accessed from this segue method in friends.m and how it is relating to the editFriends.m..

I'm confused with the flow of this concept.

Is the prepareForSegue method returning a view of data of type NSMutableArray? (This is what I understood!)Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.
