What is the recommended way to manage dynamic layouts in React?

When I think about dynamic content in websites, I see it from a PHP developers point of view - the server simple says output this block or do not.

I am building out my first ReactJS application and am trying to determine how my backend server should communicate that the block should be rendered. Is it just a matter of including the restricted component in the UserDashboardComponent and if not data is provided, do not show it?

What is the best way to approach this?
