What is wrong in my code?

I am trying from very long but not getting the answer. Can someone make me understand functions properly

product.py 
def product (7,8): 
    print   ({} * {}.format (number,lumber)) 
    return product

It's much simpler than that!

def product(item1, item2):
  return (item1 * item2)

You don't need to display the calculations just the final output!
