What tracks have you taken and how has it helped you with your job/getting a job?

I have been doing Treehouse for a while now and am getting some great results! I have better job opportunities because of the Selenium courses in the Quality Assurance track. I even created a youtube video so more people will see how great this site is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XjBhGJubc0&t=24s

Hi jacobb2!

It makes me happy to hear about your great results. What do you work with now and how do you feel it has helped you so far?

And to answer your question, I finished the Front-end Techdegree which helped me land my first job.

I used to do manual testing only but now I do automation. It is a lot more valuable!

Hi stjarnan, Did you find the additional support/project orientation through the tech degree to be worth the $200/month (versus just the base subscription plan of $25/month)? I suppose yes given the result but curious to hear about your experience.

Hi Jason Wattier,

As you implied, I might be a tad partial. However, here are some answers that might help you:

Was the Techdegree worth the money? - Yes, in my opinion, the streamlined experience helped me a lot. The projects were challenging and gave me something to later show the employers. The Slack community you get to be a part of is also a highlight that helped me get through the program. You get to help students with their problems using the Slack channels, and you get to solve your own problems by taking help from other students. This is something the employers like to hear about, that you managed to get experience collaborating during your program.

Is it possible to succeed on the Basic Plan? Yes, while all the extras of the Techdegree are amazing, the courses that teach you everything is the same. If you manage to create your own projects to show off what you've learned, find a community that can help you (And where you can help others, helping others is important!) and manage to grow confident in your skills I see no reason as to why you wouldn't succeed on the Basic Plan. There are A LOT of examples of this on the Treehouse blog (success stories).

I hope that helps you and anyone else reading this. Feel free to ask more questions, that's why I am here.

Hi Jonas /stjarnan

Thank you - really appreciate the detailed feedback. It's helpful to hear the perspective of individuals who have experienced it firsthand.

I really like the Basic Plan so far - just started there while I get a feel for if Treehouse is a good fit for me before upping the commitment on the Techdegree.

Have you experienced or thought about other Techdegrees in addition to the Full Stack JS one?

Thanks again and happy Friday!

Jason

Hi Jason,

That sounds like a great plan, trying the Basic Plan before committing to the more expensive Techdegree.

I considered taking another Techdegree, but never did. Nostalgia had me wanting to do it all over again :)

Happy Friday!

Hi Jonas -

Understood. It seems like you have sampled quite a few of the Tracks. I am impressed by the library of courses that TH has - not just open source "darlings" like Ruby/Python but also Microsoft (C#), Apple (Swift) and Google/Go.

Really like have a "go-to" spot that's going to take you from "zero" to a comfortable beginner/intermediate spot to feel like you have a solid foundation for self-learning/more advanced parts of a language.

Thanks again for the responses!

Exactly!

That's the way I use Treehouse right now, I take the courses to get started, which makes me very comfortable to then use the documentation whenever I get stuck on a personal project or something at work.

Good luck Jason!

Thanks so much - that's pretty much what I want to use it as -> glad to see that holds up over a larger sample size/experience.

I have had experience with "jumping" to fair ahead/too deep to fast - and it's always good to stretch yourself a little bit...but too far at once/too many new things can sometimes be discouraging.

So having a good bridge not just to "Basics" but just a general comfort factor/confidence is a huge help.
