What would be an ideal way, in terms of backend, to go about creating a content-curation website?

This was developed with Rails, and I'm wondering what the best option is for curation of articles/case studies posted on external websites. The website I'd be building is just to gather and curate content and organize it by category.

I think this was developed with Wordpress. How would one go about this? Would every piece of content need to be a specific post-type?
