What's a parameter?

Could you just give me a quick overview?

1 Answer

Hi Edelweiss,

A parameter is the part of a function definition that represents the unknown input to that function.

So in the following:

function squareNum(num) {
    return num * num
}
// the num variable is a parameter

console.log(squareNum(5)) // 5 is the argument

Parameters and arguments are closely related, but the parameter is the variable that you’re using to represent the argument that will later be passed in.
