console.log() is a function used to output standard output (stdout) to the JavaScript console. Very useful for debugging.

(In NodeJS, it will output to terminal window.)

It's useful for checking an output of a function or the value of a variable. Say you have a function or a loop that's not quite working the way you'd hoped. You can use console.log in the code to print the values to the console, just so you can see what's going on.
