Good question, if you get to the very next video in the course, I answer that question and tell you a little about the guy who invented it, Sir Tim Berners-Lee. There are also some good links under the video you might want to check out.

The first website ever to be preserved for future generations and the history of the web. Check it out at http://info.cern.ch/

It started in 1989 when Sir Tim Burners created the World Wide Web.
