Did you by chance have cookies disabled? Most shopping carts use cookies to allow products added to persist between pages.

I downloaded ok for mac, should be similar to windows. Because we chose the free version, the cart may technically show empty but as long as you filled out the form, I think it was just name and email the download should start when you submit your details.
You could try - a different browser, if you used IE you could try chrome/firefox. check you chose free latest version check your downloads folder, it may have downloaded.
