when i try to remove a second item from the list it negates the first item

when i try to remove the second item from the list it messes up the first objective removed from the list

lists.py 
states = [
    'ACTIVE',
    ['red', 'green', 'blue'],
    'CANCELLED',
    'FINISHED',
    5,
]
states.remove(5)
states.remove

You can specify the whole list contained in the second item, or you can simply reference it for removal:

states.remove(states[1])
