When uploading files to a website using an ftp client, how do you know what to put for a number in the port?

Does this come from the hosting company the same as the server names?

Typically the port number will come with the hosting information from you hosting provider. Just log into your hosting provider account and locate it within the server details. It should provide hosting server name and password plus ftp ports and any other valuable information regarding your specific hosting package.

I hope this helps.

I was very curious about this as well. Thank you!

Glad I could help. =)
