Where did I go wrong?

I don't understand my error.

I selected the tag name, where did I go wrong?

So can someone help me solve it?

Cesare

app.js
var fullName = document.getElementById("full_name");
var lastName = document.getElementsByTagName(span);
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head></head>
<body>
<h1 id="full_name"><span class="first_name">Andrew</span> <span class="last_name">Chalkley</span></h1>

<script src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

You are very close to the correct answer. First put quotes around the span tag, "span". Second, getElementsByTagName returns an array of objects and you want the last name, the second element. You can access this using it's index, getElementsByTagName("span")[1]. Hope this helps.

Also what stumped me was the difference in calling plural and singular elements with the method:

getElementById("id") returns a single element node

and

getElementsByClassName("class") or getElementsByTagName("tagName") returns one or more elements( as a nodelist)

Ah!

Thank you even for the explanation that made me clear how to proceed.

Thank you
