Where to begin?

I am looking to learn something for game development and most of what I have encountered needs C ++ or C I would also love to learn Java but there are so many engines in languages not recommended for beginners and I would love to try a language that is not recommended for beginners. So what would you recommend to someone who wants to develop a game?
