While I have no technical answer for you, I can tell you from experience that Xcode is a really 'buggy' IDE at best and most times annoying as heck. The only thing you can really do is quit and restart and wait until everything finishes 'processing' before actually starting anything yourself, but even this only works some of the time.
My system is only a year old. Everything is the latest version, and still...
So many times I've had to do this. Both with the playground and with a project. I've all but given up on Xcode... hopefully Apple fixes ALL these bugs soon.
