Why do we need to remove friend from NSMutable Array property? (Stage 3 - Relating Users in Parse.com 3:29 in)

We did three things when we were trying to remove the friend:

  1. remove the checkmark

  2. remove friend object from the array of friends

  3. remove from the back end

I don't get why do we need to do step 2, I actually commented out the code implemented for step 2, and everything still works.

The reason for us to create the NSMutable Array property friends in EditFriendViewController was to catch / hold the data pass from FriendViewController when it did the prepareForSegue, that's it, why do we still need to manipulate the friends array in EditFriendViewController?
