Why document.getElementsByTagName('body') doesn't work

I get bummer on selecting body in document const body = document.getElementsByTagName('body'); Why it is not correct?

We can select the body by doing document.body directly. For example - To set the background color on a body.

document.body.style.backgroundColor = "coral";
