Python Regular Expressions in Python Introduction to Regular Expressions The Basics

Why does it keep saying Task 1 is no longer passing when I try to do task 2. I haven't changed anything

I keep getting the same error even though it said task 1 was done correctly

basics.py
file_object= open ("basics.txt")
data=read (file_object)

The "task 1" message might be a bit misleading.

The challenge always re-checks task 1, so if you have introduced a syntax error anywhere in the code, it will think there's trouble with task 1.

Your main issue is in using the read method. This method should be applied to the file object, but instead you called it like a function and passed the object to it as an argument.
