PHP PHP Basics (Retired) What is PHP? Intro to Workspaces and PHP Code

Why the "?" convention?

I notice in PHP we use ? as the convention to say: "We're using PHP now"...and I'm just curious why question marks are used to indicate the start and end of PHP statements (vocab?)?
