Why use an action method instead of directly linking the gesture to the VC in interface builder?

Is there any reason (other than teaching purposes) you used an IBAction method to programmatically trigger the segue as opposed to creating the segue directly in interface builder by control + dragging from the gesture to the detail view controller?
