CSS The Selectors Solution

Why was this not covered in the course I just took?

I've been doing pretty well understanding most of the course, but now I feel completely loss. I've jotted everything down throughout the course and now when I try this practice worksheet at the end of the course it is asking me to do things I never saw throughout the course.

Where did I miss the code input[type='submit']:active ? I never saw any code written in this style throughout the course I just took. How am I suppose to know if I absorbed the material we just went through if the practice sheet at the end is utilizing different codes?

Is there something I'm missing? Are all the courses like this from here on out? If so how can I learn what we haven't gone over?
