Why won't my list items switch to inline?

I wrote the code

li { display: inline; }

but my list items will not switch from block to inline? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

The display style being applied to the a:link selector is causing the problem. Also, there are a few problems with comments not starting and ending properly.

a:link {
  color: rgb(255, 169, 73);
  text-decoration: none;
  display: block; /* <=== This style is taking precedence over the li's display: inline */
  background-color: tomato;
}

bingo! nice find

Hi Kenneth,

Can you post the HTML & CSS portions you have for ul and li elements? The code you posted is what Guil uses and is correct - I just verified it in a Codepen. The only thing coming to mind is that possibly the li selector in CSS may be defined again further down, over-writing what you posted (just a guess).

Best Regards

Hey Kenneth,

In the video, the syles for a:link contain a display property of "block"- try commenting it out and then include display: inline for the "li" element.

There's an override issue such that the anchor links are all displaying as block level elements.
