Will the customization made in "Appearance > Customize" or "Appearance > Theme options" be overridden by a theme update?

If the customization made in the theme using the admin area is overridden by a theme update, how can I save that customization into the child theme?

I'm just starting out with WordPress so I haven't had that problem. I just imagined that could be a potential problem and wanted to make my site future proof from the start.
