with being new to computers, how would i know what Energia or Linux is, in order to answer some of these questions?

I think it's because the team at Treehouse will try to encourage you to discover new things and learn, so using a search engine like http://www.google.com will be a good solution for you.

Simply write - What is ___?

Personally I like that they don't give away everything and surprise you on the quizzes.
