Python Python Collections (2016, retired 2019) Dictionaries Word Count

word_count()

What am I missing here? It works on my PC.

wordcount.py
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier.
def word_count(rec):
    rec_list = rec.lower().split(" ")
    dict = {}
    for word in rec_list:
        if word in dict:
            dict[word] += 1
        else:
            dict[word] = 1
    return dict

print(word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am"))

the problem is with .split(" " ), just use .split() to split all whitespace ('Tab', 'Space',...)

That was it. Not sure why it didnt work. It works in my computer. Thank you much !

What is an issue? It looks like everything okay.

The function is fine. Now you have to call it: word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am")

Good catch Eugen. I called it and this is what I get:

Bummer! Hmm, didn't get the expected output. Be sure you're lowercasing the string and splitting on all whitespace!

Hmm.. It looks strange. Can you try this?

print(word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am"))

No luck. I have updated the code above so you can see what I have. Error: Bummer! Hmm, didn't get the expected output. Be sure you're lowercasing the string and splitting on all whitespace!
