I am not sure why is not returning the expected output

wordcount.py 
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier.


def word_count(s):
    words = s.lower()
    words = words.split(' ')
    d = {}
    for e in words:
        x = words.count(e)
        d.update({e: x})
    return d

You're very close. Just remove the ' ' from within the parentheses of the split method. By default, .split() will split on all whitespace (there are a few different whitespace characters). In practice your solution is likely fine, but since the challenge asks to split on all whitespace characters, you need to go with this:

def word_count(s):
    words = s.lower()
    words = words.split()
    d = {}
    for e in words:
        x = words.count(e)
        d.update({e: x})
    return d
